What you can do in TeamLayer

One page, the whole product: chat, calls, tasks, sprints, docs and everything around them. Written for people, not for lawyers.

Getting started

Your team gets its own address (your-team.teamlayer.io) and its own isolated database.

  • Invite people by email; restrict signups to your company domains if you want.
  • One account, many teams: switch between teams from the sidebar, no separate logins.
  • Workspaces group channels, tasks and members; roles are owner, admin and member.

Channels and messages

  • Public and private channels, threads, emoji reactions and @mentions with autocomplete.
  • Markdown formatting, editing and deleting messages, file attachments up to 25 MB with image previews.
  • Typing indicators, presence (available / away / busy), unread markers and a global search.
  • Works offline: messages you send without a connection queue up and deliver automatically.

Direct messages

  • One-to-one and group conversations with the same powers as channels: threads, reactions, files.
  • Pin the people you talk to most; unread badges follow you across devices.

Voice, video and screen sharing

  • Start a call from a channel, a DM or a calendar event; others get a ring and can hop in.
  • Screen sharing, a shared whiteboard, raise-to-speak and moderation (mute all, remove).
  • Recordings with controlled access: who watched is logged, and a deletion request flow supports GDPR.

Tasks

  • Custom statuses with colors and WIP limits; kanban, list and backlog views.
  • Task keys like PROJ-123, subtasks, comments in real time, labels, priorities, due dates and story points.
  • Full change history: who changed status, assignee or anything else, and when.

Private tasks - plan your work your way

A private task is visible only to its creator. Unique to TeamLayer: you can add PRIVATE subtasks under any task - including someone else's.

  • Break a shared task into your own private checklist without adding noise for the team.
  • Your private items never leak: they are filtered out of lists, boards and search for everyone else.

From chat to task and back

  • Turn any message into a task with one click; the task keeps a link back to the conversation.
  • Task keys pasted in docs become live status chips; assignment pings the assignee.

Sprints

  • Sprint board, sprint goal and capacity in story points.
  • Burndown and velocity charts plus a retro (what went well / what to improve) built into the report.

Projects

  • Group channels and tasks under a project to see one initiative end to end.

Team docs (wiki)

  • Pages with a tree structure, markdown and @mentions; every save keeps a version you can restore.
  • Task keys in text render as live chips with current status.
  • Embed a LIVE task list in a page with a ```tasks block (filter by status, assignee, label, channel). These are your real tasks, not a copy - unlike Notion.

Calendar

  • Events with participants, recurring events, and calls attached to events.
  • Tasks with due dates show up in the calendar view.

Mentions inbox

  • Every @mention lands in one inbox, so nothing addressed to you gets lost.

Organization

  • Org structure with teams, leads and tags; member profiles with avatars.

Search and command palette

  • Global search across messages, DMs, channels and tasks; Ctrl/Cmd-K palette for jumping anywhere.

Apps: web, desktop, mobile

  • Installable PWA with a real offline mode (local data, outgoing queue).
  • Windows desktop app with tray and badge; mobile app with push notifications.

Notifications that respect your time

  • Browser and mobile push, sounds, and an email digest of task changes.
  • Quiet hours: no emails at night.

Integrations API

  • Per-workspace API keys; create tasks, add comments and change statuses from external systems (CI, forms, scripts).

Security and privacy

  • Each team on its own database - true data isolation, not just a column filter.
  • Membership checked on every request; private channels, private tasks, controlled recording access with an access log.
  • GDPR-friendly: recording deletion requests, minimal data collection.
